Scratch Game Design

In Mr. Sanderl's class this past week we had to make a chase game! I tried my best to make it bug-free and get feedback from others. I got a lot of feedback from my friends like what I should do and what would make it cool like music and characters. I did a loot of research to make everything move smoothly, but sometimes it didn't work and had to fix it a little so it would work.  I played my friends other games to see if I could take a little bit of code to make mine better. I also worked on this on my free time this took me awhile to figure out but I did it! We also did a platformer game what helped me a lot in this one was the hyperlinks Mr. Sanderl put on the focus wall and Mr. Sanderl's game.

My characters Giga and Pico I took from scratch and just made them different colors. In my game they are brother and sister. I choose the boardwalk background because I thought it look the coolest and I thought it kinda looked like Kauai so I put in my game. I made Pico chase Giga around because for some reason it was difficult to make the player run away. I choose them to be fighting over a cookie because that's is basically my life with my siblings. My sprites in my platformer game is Gobo the neon green sprite is to jump on the "clouds" to get the ball and go to the next level before time was up. This game was easier to make than the chase game.

My best code that I put together was in my platformer game. It was at the end where the if's are. So if the sprite touched the yellow ball in 10 seconds it would go to a screen where I wrote "you win" and music played. But if the sprite didn't make in 10 seconds the screen would go to a "game over" screen and play some weird music, and the sprite would say "aww man" "try again". The problems I had with this game was the controls and the artificial intelligence. At first when I put the controls in the worked smoothly but then the next day when I logged on they didn't work anymore! So I had to code it another way but that a had little problems but I left it alone.Giga was really hard the same thing happened with the arrow key controls. I made her point Pico but then it didn't work anymore. So now she's not actually chasing Pico she is just going anywhere she wants but kinda avoiding Pico. But this is my first game and I had lots of trouble. But I think my next game is better. It will be coming soon! So now the second game has come out but this was more time consuming with gravity engine I couldn't decide wether to do it or not because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't so I didn't want to waste my time on that so I did simple jumping instead and I couldn't get the falling so I didn't do it.

Invention Commerical

In Mr.Sanderl's class this past week we had to make an invention and a commercial! Our main goal
for our commercial was to make melting butter faster and making it more easier and portable and just cooler. We called it ButterQuick. But our biggest goal was to entertain everyone but we didn't quite get there. Another goal was try to meet up with each other, but that was to hard because we had different things to do. Overall we made it a little pass the deadline but we turned it in on a soft deadline.

Our best "team moment" during our production was filming in the studio. Callum and Kacie were pretending to be newscast anchors (we put the audio in there but not the B-roll). I was filming them trying to get interesting angles. Kacie does really well as a news anchor and everyone was laughing having a good time. I think that was our best "team moment".

During post-production editing Kacie took over the editing because she is super fast and knows whats she's doing. What I did was giving Kacie suggestions on how to edit and what to put what where. Callum gave some feed back but Kacie did the most because she is faster at editing. Are team kinda fell apart at the end because we were past the deadline and we tried to get it on time as fast as we could. This isn't are best work there will better ones coming soon.

Composition Scavenger Hunt

This week in Mr. Sanderl's class we did a project call composition scavenger hunt. It was kinda hard but my group figured it out. The most composition technique that I thought was important was all of them! I say this because I barely knew any of them. I think their all important because if you want to be a photographer this will make you look like a pro!

The most difficult technique for me would have to be force foreground. My group was already confused on it when we heard it. We look at the picture to try to figure it out. We tried our best but we kinda failed. Our camera was focused on my team member instead of the tree. We could use it more when a person  is presenting a subject we will make sure the camera is focused on the subject and not the person holding it. But this technique is totally useful!

My group had 3 members just like everyone else. There was Kacie (7th grade) Kacie Burns, and Callum (6th grade)Callum Meredith and me. We all did the video together and everyone had a part. We all took turns filming, talking, and appearing in the video, and Kacie did most of the editing in IMovie because she knew it better than us and she worked really fast! Callum and I did music, and the transitions we only had limited time so that's why Kacie did most of the work. I think the production did well in that short amount of time. Make sure to check out Kacie's and Callum's blog!

Cracking The Code

In Mr.Sanderl's class this week we tried coding for the first time. I think everyone should try coding because it expands your knowledge and exercises your brain. I think people should try it so they could try new things and see whats its like to make games. Coding could make other people want to change their career to be a game maker. People should try so they  challenge themselves  I personally think it's a good challenge.

My first experience with code was really interesting. It was really frustrating the first time around. When I went to my second hour of code it was easier. Then in my third was a breeze! It's really challenging, but you have to have patience if you want to pass any levels.I'm really glad Mr.Sanderl showed us this because I think it's necessary to learn code.

If I could design any program it would have a lot of features to it. My program will have so many modes for kids who are not suppose to be exploring the internet by them selves this program will be safe and censored. There will be many modes school mode,Game mode, music mode, creativity mode etc. The only way to get the program is only by searching it in any search engine.Plus it would be free but once it gets popular it will cost a little money.

My Humorous Monologue

In Mr.Sanderl's GT class we are doing another project and this one we will be doing a comedic monologue. I certainly learned a TON of things for this project it was a little difficult, but I figured it out. The most important thing I learned was how to use the camera right. I learned how to keep it clean and to care for it properly like cleaning the lens and screen, to put it back in its case after I'm done filming. Another thing I learned was how to film, what lighting to make the video look clear, and how to move so its not all shaky. After I filmed my monologue and B-roll and learned how to import my videos to finder and iMovie I had to put the SD card in the computer the right with the sticker facing me and putting it in the small hole of the computer. You have to eject the SD card so you don't rip it out and mess it up. Another thing I learned was about a bunch of imovie editing tips. One of the tips was taking the audio out of my B-roll so i can hear my monologue better.Another one was how to speed or slow down footage this feature helped me a lot with my timing so everything could fit perfectly. I'm so glad I learned all these things because I would fail really bad.

Padding is when you give time before you start your video. For example you say rolling press the button then after three seconds you say action so you catch the footage and won't get cut off. After you finish your video you say cut so you finish the ending and the ending won't get cut off as well. Padding is important because it gives it time to capture your footage. You can edit it out the spaces you don't need but it helps a lot and it worth doing.

My weaknesses for this project ways obtaining information and what order to do things because my brain is VERY confusing. Another weakness was for this project was getting all the footage to fit the timing I had but that was impossible. The strengths I had in this project was editing the video because I really needed it. Another strength that I had made me really proud was exporting the video by-myself! FINALLY! So to improve my weaknesses I will try my hardest to remember everything and try really hard to get the right timing. But over all this is my favorite project so far.

Comedy Writing

A sense of humor is an important character trait because most friendships are mostly telling jokes and making your friends laugh. Plus having that character just lightens the mood in everything and makes you happier person in general. I say we get our friends like that because when you see a group friends like 99.9% are laughing having a great time. Humor makes things more interesting like if you tell a story and its not funny its automatically boring. Humor makes things more relate able.I think sense of humor makes a person better and showing their inner self in their jokes. Humor makes a world a better place.

There are many ways to write a humorous narrative. Im going to tell you five tips that helped me write mine! The first tip is to find something that is funny to you if its not funny to you then you can't tell the joke funny and nobody will laugh. The second tip is to find something to write about that makes everyone mad like chip nail polish. The third tip would be read your monologue to some else and ask them if it makes sense. The fourth tip would be when you read it you have to go into character. The last tip would make fun if it isn't fun then you wont have a great time doing it.

My comedic monologue is basically me telling everyone how girls overreaction over things. I put two examples one about tripping and laughing then the other one is about crying and getting mad plus there is my dad who is confused by all the emotion. I think its funny because its relatable and true. Somehow the truth is funny. Another reason why I think its funny because I'm going to put in my B-roll tons of funny and crazy faces in my video. I think it will come all together when I finish the B-roll.

Motivational Poster

In Mr.Sanderl's class we are doing a motivational poster and here are the requirements.
In your motivational poster you have 6 layers. You have two text layers, one for your manifesto and another one for you personal quotes, you have them separate because there two different things and you don't want to be confused which is which. Then you have four images layers. You have your three symbols that you posted on google+ and they represent you. Then your last picture is one of your face, which is called your portrait picture.

Next you have designing requirements, you don't want your to be plain and boring so you add designs. For one of the requirements is a design called kerning. Kerning is make your words bigger and smaller and can make gaps between your sentences and words bigger or smaller. Another requirement we have is triadic color scheme its basically having one color stand out more than the other colors. The next requirement is visual balance this has to do with balancing all your colors and words to make them symmetrical and pleasing to the eye. The final requirement is blending and balancing your text layers and adjustment layers on your four images. You have to make all your pictures cover the whole page with the four pictures you have and making them equal and make sure they don't overlap. Then you have make your words cover the pictures but make sure you can read them and you can see the pictures. This is all the requirements for a motivational poster!

The first step I did to complete this project was making up personal quotes, then I put together a personal manifesto in my first blog post. The second step I did was create a photoshop doc., then after I did that I copied and pasted my personal quotes, and manifesto in two different text boxes, I did some kerning, put a font on my words. The third step I did was taking three pictures of symbols that represent me, next my friend took a couple pictures of me, I picked a picture that I though was best. The fourth step I uploaded my pictures to my folder then I put them in different text layers behind my text so I could read them, then I put the pictures on my background so it covers the whole page and I made them symmetrical so they would catch the eye.The fifth step was making my words more read-able so I made the words be outlined in  more black and made the filled the inside of the letters with colors. For step six I did the background a different color. Then I published it to my blog!

The biggest challenge for me was kerning. The reason it was difficult because if I made the words to big the words below would go under the line so you couldn't see it. Then when I would kern the sentences so there wouldn't be any gaps if I made it to small the other sentence would come up and over lap my sentences and looked liked a blob. Another problem I had was there was to many buttons  for me to remember to save my work so I would forget to press a certain button and it would save and then I would have to, of course do it all over again! But how I improved was staying calm and tried to figure it out but if I couldn't figure it out I would ask for help. I'm glad I didn't panic because I would have never finished it if I didn't stay calm. I learn you have to be patient with this certain type of project because everything can go your way or come out the way you wanted.
